WHY DID NEPAL VOTE IN SUPPORT OF UNGA TO DENY JERUSALEM AS CAPITAL OF IS...

On December 21st  2017, 128 out of 193 United Nations member countries  voted for a motion that rejects US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Nepal voted in favour of United Nations General Assembly resolution criticising the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital. Resolution was jointly sponsored by Yemen and Turkey.

128 countries voted for the resolution supporting the long-standing international consensus that the status of Jerusalem which is claimed as capital by both Israel and Palestine, and can only be settled as an agreed final issue in a peace deal. While 35 abstained and nine countries voted against the resolution.

According to Nepalese officials, Nepal’s decision to vote in favour of United Nations General Assembly was only because of country's historic position on Israel and Palestine, and not exactly against the United States.
